Drake Becomes the First Artist to Hit 1 Billion Streams in One Week

Drake's new album Scorpion has been breaking records left right and center. Now, the project has officially been streamed over 1 billion times across streaming platforms – the first album to ever do so – industry sources have confirmed to Billboard.
Drake surpasses the record previously held by Post Malone with his beerbongs & bentleys album, which achieved 700 million streams in its first week. Scorpion is expected to debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200. The release of Drake's fifth studio album coincides with Billboard's new calculation formula that gives more power to paid subscription streams, and the streaming numbers alone (700,000 equivalent units), could make for this year's highest sales to date. The Toronto shared the good news on Instagram, thanking his fans "a billion times over."
