Last night professional motorsports competitor and stunt performer Travis Pastrana paid tribute to one of the most legendary stunt showman in history, Evel Knievel. The event, which took place in Las Vegas and aired on the History Channel, was referred to as Evel Live, as it saw Pastrana recreate three of Knievel's most iconic jumps, including one stunt that nearly killed the late performer.
Decked out in an Evel Knievel-esque costume, Travis attempted to jump 143 feet over 52 cars, 192 feet over 16 Greyhound buses, and 149 feet to clear the fountain at Caesars Palace.
"This is all about Evel, and the coolest thing about this whole thing, all of Evel's family is out here," said Pastrana. "This is the home of the most iconic jump, one of the most iconic events that has ever gone down. And to end at Caesars Palace, to have a chance to jump the fountain. It's not the longest jump but it's definitely the hardest."
On New Year's Eve in 1967, Knievel came up short when attempting to jump the fountain at Caesars Palace, hitting just before the landing ramp, and ultimately losing control. Upon flying over the handle bars, Evel crushed his pelvis and fractured multiple bones. He did go on to complete various other jumps throughout his career following the near-fatal incident, before passing way in 2007 at the age of 69.
Nonetheless, to watch Travis Pastrana attempt the three iconic Evel Knievel jumps, see the clips above and below.
